Watching professional creators on deviantArt has its advantages, like finding out what they're working on at the moment. Which is how I found out that Lauren Faust is working on a series of shorts for DC, titled Super Best Friends Forever, starring Batgirl, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman.
Lauren Faust has shown over and over again that she can create great female characters, probably the best at writing female characters in American cartoons today, and I feel like that's almost become her schtick. If someone wants to make a decent series centered around female characters, they call in Lauren Faust, which I feel is both a good and a bad thing. On one hand, great female characters are desperately needed in the media in general, and going back to someone who's proven that she can do it, and have it be amazingly popular and well-received, is showing that they at least want these great female characters. On the other hand, I know that Lauren Faust has her own original series that she's been pitching, Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls, and I feel bad that people keep ignoring her original stuff, but ask her to make something with an already established franchise, like with My Little Pony and now with this series.
Lauren Faust seems pretty positive about the series, so maybe she's thinking of it as more material to put in a resume the next time she tries to pitch her series, to further impress the people in charge. And hey, as long as there's some females characters out there that are honestly likeable and fun, I'm all for it!
Somewhat related, but is anyone else totally excited that there's finally going to be an episode about Luna in My Little Pony? So awesome!
